High Park Cherry Blossoms

April 18, 2010

What a beautiful day for some white and pink! It was well worth the early morning call on a Sunday. We were at High Park by 8am so we pretty much had the whole park to ourselves. The line of fully blossomed trees along the park’s path was so dreamy. We watched as the sun came out from the clouds and turned the sky blue…the perfect blue to go with the beautiful cherry blossoms. My next destination for these cherry blossoms would be Japan 🙂

Chinese Wedding Traditions

February 10, 2010

During my visit to Hong Kong recently, I attended a small bridal show there. There were 2 halls – 1 packed with photography studios, the other – full of vendors for venues, make-up, decorations and invitations. While I was there, I had the time to sit and watch the fashion show as well as listen to a seminar on Chinese wedding traditions. When brides come to me with a Chinese traditional wedding in mind, they often tell me that they only want to follow a few traditions. It’s not because they don’t want to follow every tradition, it’s because there’s just TOO MANY! Everything from how the couple’s room is decorated, to what is said during the tea ceremony has a meaning and therefore must be planned out carefully. One of the many interesting traditions or superstitions that I picked up at the seminar was that after the bride has been picked up by the groom from her home, both of them go to the groom’s home. When the bride and groom enter the groom’s home, everyone (groom’s family) must hide so that the bride does not see them when she enters through the door. They can only come out AFTER the bride has entered through the door. It is said that if the bride sees or ‘bumps’ into the groom’s family members while entering the home, it is likely that there would be arguments between the two. Interesting, eh?

Here are some photos from the fashion show…the gowns were just beautiful! My favorite would have to be the first one; a Chinese styled ‘cheong sam’ with a peacock pattern. It was absolutely stunning.
